habits for january

Eat breakfast every day

So far so good! 21 days, breakfast every day, It has ranged from toast with vegemite, to waffles, to weetbix. I have tried not to have something really little as I would have had in the past, like a piece of fruit. If I am going to eat carbs for any meal, I think breakfast is the best option. As a test I counted my calories for the day, today, where I have eaten some bad things to celebrate my husband’s new job coming up, and I was still under the 1790 calories for the day. I might even reduce the number, as I wasn’t hungry at all today.

Give up hot, milky drinks

This habit applies to coffee and chai – not that I’ve had coffee in years. Turns out that when you stop drinking coffee, you lose your tolerance, so when you drink it again, it gives you heart palpitations. Chai was my alternative but honestly? It is a waste of calories and money so its easier to give it up and just drink earl gray, made from a teabag. No sugar, less caffeine! Perfecto!

Drink 1.5-2L water per day

This is something I have been trying to do for a long time and repeatedly failing. Turns out that because I was drinking soft drink every day, I didn’t have enough space left for all the water I should have been drinking. Since giving up soft drink before Christmas (well, not soft drink, specifically cola), I have found fitting in all my water so easy! There isn’t anything that I want to drink other than water and tea – much better!

I have picked out my habits for February and I am starting to incorporate them into my life so none are a shock when the 1st of Feb rolls around. I have also decided that this year when I watch the Biggest Loser I will do a step class on the Wii – much healthier than just sitting on the couch.

I know all these changes are small and might seem inconsequential, but I know this is what will work for me. If I make wholesale changes, I am setting myself up for failure.
